Anyone know what Galina Belyayeva tested positive?

Post by Patrick Haynes »

According to http://www.issf.tv/

"Due to a positive doping case of the shooter Galina BELYAYEVA, KAZ in the 10m Air Pistol event at the World Championships in Zagreb 2006, the ISSF Executive Committee had to disqualify her and the quota place which she obtained had to be withdrawn as well."

Anyone know what she tested positive for?

Thanks.

Is that sort of thing ever made public ? I think it's up to the country involved to indicate what the illegal substance was, otherwise it's kept quiet. I guess you can post the question on the ISSF forum and see if you get a reply.

I think that its rather common to declare the substance. Otherwise, people question the validity of the test. Sometimes, they took the wrong cold medicine. Sometimes they took HGH.

I'll look around; but, if anybody finds out, drop me a note. Doping cases in shooting are very rare.

IS the only other information I could find. Doesn't mention the substance however.

Any news on Galina ?

It seem we have another case : issf.tv

"Due to a positive doping case of the shooter Andrija ZLATIC, SRB in the 10m Air Pistol Men event at the 2007 European Championships in Deauville, the ISSF Executive Committee had to disqualify him and the quota place which he obtained had to be withdrawn as well.

Therefore, this has caused a reallocation of the quota place for the 2008 Olympic Games Beijing as follows:

10m Air Pistol Men GER GEVORGJAN, Artur "

Accordingly the this article ;

Andrija failed a doping test after the European cup in France earlier this year. He has been suspended for all competition by the Serbian shooting association. He admitted to taking cannabis at a party the night before the competition!

for my $0.02; what a dope!

From what I understand cannabis is only illegal during competition (i.e. if he had just waited till "after" his victory to get lit, he would have been OK).

For my $0.02, it's the policy and these tests that are dopey. (But sorry, this is a subject we've already discussed at length in numerous threads. People either agree or disagree; I don't expect anyone to change his position anymore.)
