anyone got a downloadable fwb mod 65 manual?

a borrowed pistol I have been using for a couple of weeks just decided not to work. last part of cocking is mushy, velocity very low.
one shot fine, next shot problems, one more to be sure. put it away.

maybe there is a pellet in there somewhere?

looks like it has not had any maintenance for some time.

any help would be good

Hi, Bryan. I think that the main spring of the pistol has broken.
You will need to change it, and have a new spring fitted in.

Also it is possible the plastic plug in the main spring may be damaged.

It is a reasonable easy job to put a new spring in it, but the best solution is to take it to a gunsmith who has already worked with the gun.

The instructions in the manual do not tell you how to fix this problem, so would not be of any help.

Maybe on a Pilkington site there could be an exploded drawing of the Model 65.

What is your location? Are you mechanically minded? If you need any further information, come back to me privately. I do my own repairs.

Well, broke the news to the owner, could of gone better.
with the go ahead I have removed the spring, which is in tact. need to find the free length, probably compressed slightly.

problem was the plastic seal attached to the front of the pistol fell off, then was pushed back into the hole it came from sideways.
doesn't work well like that.

will find out tomorrow, but is the front piston seal available, or do you have to replace the whole piston as an assembly?

any comment on this would be good before I'm told I have to buy the whole piston.

thanks

Bryan,
The front plastic seal (top) is replaceable by itself. It should be just a few dollars. I have rebuilt two fwb 80's. I followed the directions found in the 'ten p' files of this website. I don't remember the spring length. I do know my one fwb 80 was chonographing at 285 and when I replaced the spring it was about 1 1/2 inches longer than the old one. It chrony in the 430's now. You might want to check the compression ring too as this could be damaged and be part of the problem too. Be careful as they are fragile and I broke one in half by simply squeezing it too much! I was able to buy another for about $10.

thanks ted. not having a manual makes it hard to use the correct name for things. would say it is just the piston seal.
may just replace the spring, and steel compression ring while it is apart.
the down side of borrowing stuff!

new to this forum, couldn,t fine 10 P files, do you have a link.

Well all back together and working better than before.
old spring was 25mm shorter than the new one, and new plastic buffer pushed into the piston easily.

only tricky part was to put the trigger back together. took a bit of fiddling to find the right reasembly order.

ten p files helped as well.

thanks
