Dating a Walther GSP by serial number

Post by Fortitudo Dei »

Does anyone have a list (or know of one online) which matches the serial number of a Walther GSP .22 with the approximate date of manufacture? Can the serial number / date of manufacture also be used to work out where the pistol might sit along the line of gradual improvements that Walther made to the GSP over its production life?
The serial number in question is 915659.

There should be a two letter code which is the year of manufacture.

A=0
B=1
C=2

And so on, you get the jist.

You can give Earl's Repair Service, Inc and he can tell you the production year based on your serial number.

As guest mentioned, there is a 2 digit code but unless you know the code table then it means nothing.

Sorry to ressurect an old post but maybe nobody cares!?

Seems simple enough. I have an OSP Match with IH imported by interarms.

If you go by this it was manufactured in 1987. This is very likely as I purchased it from Interarms (while visiting that area) in 1987.

My GSP has an IE indicating it was manufactured in 1984, which is also very likely.

The code is right above the serial number.

a 0
b 1
c 2
d 3
e 4
f 5
g 6
h 7
i 8
j 9
