Fellow Free Pistoleros of the Phoenix/Tucson Area:

My bride and I will be flying in to Phoenix the night of February 28 for a week of Arizona weather with my brother/sister-in-law. At some point we will also make a day trip to Tucson. I will be bringing, at least, The Dane (that unmarked Schultz & Larsen that is pictured a bit lower down the page under Help with Free Pistol ID). What/where/when would you recommend for the proper place(s) to give it a little exercise?
Thanks-BothellBob

Bullseye competitions in Phoenix are mostly at the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club. Their calendar of pistol competitions is at http://www.phoenixrodandgun.org/pistol.htm -- the March 4th events might fit your calendar. (The mid-February "Mid-Winter" events are the big ones of the year but you'll find some of the best shooters in the country at just about any competition. I know, they whip me every time.)

Phoenix is a 90-120 minute drive from Tucson, depending on where you will be in the Tucson area and the uncertainties of traffic.

Sorry, wasn't logged in when I posted the above.

Some Free Pistol events also take place at the PR&GC. You might want to contact the club's pistol division representative, Don Plante; his email link is at the bottom of the club's calendar page (URL in previous message). He can put you in touch with the club's membership secretary who does a lot of Free Pistol (along with other members with similar interests).

Have a Merry Christmas!

you shoulda checked the schedule before buying tickets, my 50m match is 26-Feb. http://arizona.rifleshooting.com/olympic-avery.html

and we have our USAS pistol PTO at PRGC on 18-Mar, also, tuesday night league shoots ISSF center fire on the evenings of 28-Feb & 14-mar. But I think all of those are outside your timeslot.

everything else scheduled will be NRA style bullseye
PRGC is arizona's center for precision pistol (although cowboy, IPSC, IDPA are bigger at the other 2 ranges in town.)

We have 3 big outdoor facilities in phoenix, each with multiple ranges and also 3 or so commercial indoor places I never go to. Tucson has a huge outdoor range and a smaller one and maybe some other stuff

There will be lots of rifle, High power and Palma that weekend and some NRA smallbore, also silhouette & benchrest too I think etc. during your stay. 2 or 4 trap/skeet/clays ranges between phoenix & tucson. Check out my website.

Tucson has a nice "Sonora Desert Museum" sort of cross between a zoo (with AZ species only) and a botanical garden, also not far from there, Safari Club's international wildlife museum (sorta like a wax museum, except created by a taxidermist) might be of interest. Pima Air Museum is cool too. Drive from Apache Junction, east of Phoenix, towards Roosevelt lake passes 3 or 4 canyon lakes and is very scenic.

I hope you'll come visit PRGC during your stay, even if its a non-match day, we can arrange for you to meet some of the ISSF style shooters and shoot Free Pistol on our 50yd or 50m range.
