JSB Diabolo Match question

Post by shotman »

Hi everybody.

Could anyone reply to this question: What do the numbers in the sticky labels on the bottom of the JSB Diabolo Match pellets cans mean? I mean those two labels with 4.50 (I suppose it is the caliber) and 0.530 on the bottom of the S100 Diabolo can.

Thanks in advance.

The labels on the bottom of the tins of pellets usually have the diameter of the pellet in MM (4.48, 4.49, 4.495, 4.50, and 4.51 are the sizes I've seen) and the lot number of the pellets.

Different air rifles prefer different sized pellets.

I test air rifles for our club members, when we find a brand and size pellet the rifles shoot better than the rest I have them buy a tin of the available lot numbers, then we test again to ensure the pellets of the available lot still shoot well in the gun. After that I recommend the shooters buy as much of that lot as they can afford.

Actually, the number 0.530 is likely the weight of the pellet in grams. Typically 4.5 wadcutter pellets are either 0.500 ("pistol" or "high speed") or 0.530 ("rifle"). The few times I have gone to the trouble of actually weighing pellets, I have found the 0.500 and 0.530 to be nominal weights, rather than precise measures of actual weight. Not that it makes any difference.
