I've got a Daisy 717 and looking for the correct oil to lube the felt pad in the pump/plunger system. Being that the o-ring seal runs through this spot I realize I need something "o-ring safe". Manual says "20 wt oil" and that's it. I'll admit I haven't looked THAT hard, but tend to think I won't find something fitting that description at a gun shop (Autozone yes, but...). I know of BreakFree, RemOil, etc... But no one in firearms shops will back these by saying they won't deteriorate the seals.

Apologize again for the petty question, but what do I use!!! :)

Although I don't have any experience specifically with Daisy products, I would suggest you investigate the use of Crosman Pell-Gun Oil. I've used this on all my competition airguns (compressed air and Co2, as well as single-stroke pneumatic) with great success. Comes in a small white plastic tube and can often be found where lower-end guns are sold (ie Walmart). Don't know if this would work on your 717 felt pad, but it certainly has proven itself as an 0-ring lubricant in my guns.

Go out to your car, pull dipstick, put drop in gun. Better would be to get a very small can of oil from a lawn mower shop -- they sell (typically 30wt) in small cans/jars.

Most modern seals are pretty impervious to most reasonable lubricants. The prohibitions are more related to older rubber (not neoprene or other synthetic) seals which would deteriorate if you put oil on them. If the manual calls for oil, then you must not have rubber seals.

My 777 came with a plastic tube labeled "Daisy." I suspect it to be the same as the above-mentioned Pell-Gun oil that I see in lots of sporting places. Although I wouldn't choose to, if you want to use motor oil, I would suggest using a non-detergent type.
