I was just wondering if there was a big difference between match pellets, and which pellets are generally considered "better" or used more frequently at matches?

I put my pistols in a vise and tested several different brands and sizes of quality pellets.

At first I thought using the same as the test target would be best HN 4.490"

Everything I tried was tight enough group to always be in the 10 ring, even if it were rifle.

Another size of another brand seemed a little better. but not enuf to matter in two 5-shot groups

I would feel comfortable using any top of the line pellet, of either common size. and would not even bother with cheaper pellets,.

H&N Finale Match, RWS R10, Vogel Green,

(THEY will hold the 10-ring, I wish I could!)

if you are in the states, call up Pilk and order Vogel. Anywhere else, use whatever was used on the test target

The best comment that can be made here is that each individual airgun will perform differently with different brands of pellets. And within each brand of pellets you'll see a difference in group size between individual manufacturing lot numbers.

The bottom line is that there is no *best* pellet. There is only the pellet that works best in YOUR particular airgun.

As Bill Poole indicated, group testing using as many different brands and lot numbers of pellets as you can find, with your airgun clamped in a vise is the only way to determine which pellet works best in your gun. Any of the good target pellets, as mentioned by Bill, will likely perform well enough that you can trust them to hold the 10-ring.

Mark summed it up well, use whatever works best in your particular gun regardless of the brand.

This is so true. My daughter gets exceptional results with
Gamo Match pellets in her Daisy 747. Whereas Beeman, Daisy, H&N, we've tried and they were all over the page. It truly is the one that works in your gun that is the best.
