What is the purpose of the round rotating 'disk' on the right hand side of the Walther CP2 action (there are two letters identified as 'F' and 'T') that is locked into position with a philips screw. This is a left handed gun.

You can dry fire the gun in "T", or fire the gun in "F".

So, do I have to remove the philips screw in order to switch from 'F' to 'T'?

With a metric allen wrench.

The control for the T/F position is the small allen screw on the left side of the receiver, directly opposite the indicator disc. Use the small allen wrench (mine has a red handle) provided by Walther to rotate it up or down. Be sure the CP2 is cocked before turning the screw. The cocking/loading lever should be up and the gun cocked. Otherwise if you try to force the screw to move you can damage the gun. This is definitely an old but very good pistol. Accurate and reliable. Worth taking care of. I've had mine 20 years, and it has had only one mechanical problem, which Scott Pilkington took care of. I wish at my ancient age that I could shoot as well as it does. I suspect that in the correct hands it would still be competitive at the international level.
