Newbie shooting question

Good afternoon,
Not sure if this is the right forum. I used to shoot in a very competitive level when I was in my teens. Trying to get back now and would like to go to any competitions around the PNW area before I go on deployment. I haven't been able to find anything online and I was wondering if one of you could help me out.

I used 2 templates - turns out that will drop the accuracy! Continued for a week - unknowingly - went berserk - and finally it hit me.
Back to standard 94/100 again.

Yes! I have a full setup at home - I can dismantle it in 10 mins or so, and set it up in 10 mins!
It is absolutely nice! The system is perfect ( almost ) - and works like a charm!
This costs - in INR 1.5 L , not sure how it would translate though.
Same cost as buying a spare gun, I think.

Hi,
I wanted to check this.
I did not change any sight - and went on shooting 40 shots, and seems like the target moved all over the place.


Then after lunch - I attempted again. This time I kept on changing the sights ( adjusted ) the moment I saw any off shots.


Ignore the 7s. They happened in the crazy last series - when I took a break of 4 mins.

But what I am asking is this.
Does the sight moves during long practice session / match?
Because as I kept on adjusting - trusting what I am shooting was the right shot - my groups improved drastically.
P.S.
I am a cross eyed - right handed shooter - - shooting with my left eye which is dominant with an eye patch on the right eye.
Any help here?

You are probably chasing subtle errors in technique. I change my sights one or two clicks a year at most.

Unless you can call your shots very accurately, making adjustments based on a few shots is a waste of time. You need to concentrate on fixing what's moving them around. DON"T WORRY ABOUT SCORES!!!! Leave your sights alone and work on getting your group the size of the 9 ring. THEN you can adjust your sights.

As a guess, you are losing focus on your front sight occasionally, and forcing other shots off.

Also, if you are cross-dominant, and serious about the sport, consider getting an offset grip from Rink.

Stop farting around trying to buy points! A dab of putty will fix your grips.

And for the guy chasing his sights: stop screwing around and pay attention! Do what Gwhite says. He is one of the few on here that knows what the hell he's talking about.

Warning - beginner talking alert !

So I shot 6X10 at the range this morning: 451-4X = 74, 75-1x, 77, 71-1x, 72-1x, 82-1X (0.3 below my lifetime average - 4 weeks)

I suspect most of this stuff needs to be learned behaviors. On the last target I slowed down and FORCED-FORCED myself to stay focused on the front sight. Maybe it's just an anomaly - the next 6 will tell. I can't explain why - but it did feel like I had more control over the entire situation.

I've been blowing off the importance of staying on that front sight (mistake that will not be repeated going forward).

Umm.. I am not trying to buy points, far from it.

My trouble is with my very small hands - adding "putty" is not going to work. Someone needs to remove some too!

Hey folks, some update:

More or less established a sub-6 hold (equal gaps).

Gave up standing 90 degrees, somehow not suitable for me— my arm kept drifting to the left. Now, I stand like 60 degrees to the target. My arm naturally aligns.

Adhering to the same shoes (mostly). Understood, shoes are important. will order a pair of retro-looking weight-lifting shoes.

Thanks to GWhite, I worked a lot to keep focus on the sights and now I can quite a bit call my shots.

@nmondal, how is your new target? When is your next qualification round for the state championship? Getting closer to your target score, 360 right?

New target is working absolutely fine.
The trouble I have with the grip now. Different times different grips - different groups.
I am able to call the shots even difference between high 9s and 10s now.
But even with that my targets are floating all over.
Adjust sight - and shoot, 10. 4,5 10s happen.
Then an 8 - completely off track. Re-Adjust and shoot again.
Again, a string of 10 and high 9 follow.
This is giving me pain.

See for yourself. This is today.
Somehow I need to finalise the grip. And I am unable to do it - cause I need to remove material from it, adding to it won't work!

There are literally 10 X 10 there. And rest are terrible shots. I curse my terribly tiny hand.

The thing that is killing your scores are the 7's. Forget about scores and how many tens you've shot, and work on eliminating those. The score will be there once you do that.

Every time you shoot a deep 10, review all of the little details that helped make it happen. This not only reinforces the learning process for shooting 10's, but it will hopefully help you identify when something is different BEFORE you shoot a 7, so you can abort & start your shot process over.
