Rover wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 11:17 am If you don't know where your pistol is shooting, it doesn't matter. All you are concerned with is grouping.

But since you bring it up: Shoot a target, put another target over it and shoot it, then do it again. You'll have thirty shots on one piece of paper. Then adjust your sights (about four clicks per scoring ring). Now do it all over again, and again, and again, and again......forever!
Thanks Rover,
I agree that it does'nt matter. That's why I am reluctant to play with the sight adjustment. This targetscan app gives a heat map of the previous shots, like last 1,7,30 days. Do you think this could help?
this is the heat map. not sure how to make sense of it !

This is today. In range.
I completely lost concentration for 20 mins or so.. and then it just came back.

Left one is the last 10 shots, right one is the first 10 shots.
I did 30 shots.

I think I am getting the idea of flier due to trigger pull and grip.
With great grip - the flier would be a high 9. But the clock map would tell if it was.
It was, today. 7s becoming rare - if I shoot good - mostly 10. If I shoot bad mostly a mixture of 9/10.
Due to my stupidity all 60 shot score was lost today - albeit the last 10 shots I remember:
8,10,10,10,10,9,10,10,10,9
Because I have nothing to show - for I shot back at home.

Image
Given I got a good grip thanks to my practice in the morning this came out.

5 shots.
Seems like for me there are only two problems.
1. Grip - get a great grip
2. Don't pull the trigger randomly
Nothing else seems to be the problem.

P.S. @GWhite sir - I have started to detect the difference between positions - can call shots where they are off.
I could even adjust it - most my shots are vertically aligned now - very less horizontal spread!

Thank you all!

You are getting there! Once you've got the details figured out, you need to practice them meticulously until doing it right is automatic.

The thing I compare it to is tying your shoes. It's a complex action using both hands to do different things at the same time. You do almost every day (even a few times a day), without giving it any thought. If you tried to describe how to do it over the phone, you would be hard pressed to manage it. When was the last time you messed up tying your shoes? Pistol shooting is a bit more precise, but the principles are the same.

It's all about muscle memory, but you need to be careful to train the muscles with the best possible set of actions. That's why you should quit if you are having a bad practice for some reason. Practicing shooting poorly builds bad muscle memory.

If you actually think about what you are doing when you tie your shoes, the odds are high that you will screw it up. Once shooting 10's becomes more automatic, the last part of the puzzle is turning off your brain so the muscle memory can do its thing. To quote one very successful pistol coach "No stinkin' thinkin'!" if you find your concentration wandering during a shot, ABORT.

Indeed, I definitely make a better shot when my mind is busy with something else. Though, this is not something I can do as I wish.

40 shots in like 90 minutes, in interrupted intervals— still a work day :)

What do you conclude from what you saw?

What are we to deduce?

I see 40 shots in octal scatter. The cause of the scatter should be found and known to the one who shot. emre-nur?

That is just not true. You are just starting. You will get better, way way better.

5 shots.

In fact first 5 shots.
I could figure out the trigger pull - that went out.
I could see - if I have a good grip - a trigger pull produces.. high 9s!

+1. Could we have a separate thread (or even forum, easier to disregard) for "Look how cool I am"?

Yes.
:)

Following points.
1. Noob shooter
2. Cross Eyed shooting
3. Grip issue - because of hand is very small
4. Stance issue because of cross eye - and 3-D geometry
5. Understanding repetition
====
Specifically GWhie, William has been incredibly helpful.
There are a lot of golds in here - which if I knew 2 years back would be much easier for me.
So thank you all.

All,
I am creating another thread - where each day ( any ) shooters can update their target papers/scores.
This thread can be used to reference the scores from that thread - ask for questions / tips/ mentoring by experienced shooters in this forum.

Why not just shoot Siordian's Match on here so that one can "get real"?
