"The 2020 NRA Collegiate Championships for pistol teams and club rifle teams (non-varsity) scheduled to be held at Ft. Benning over the next couple weeks have been changed from shoulder-to-shoulder to a postal match format in an abundance of caution related to the Coronavirus. Qualifiers for the championships will now shoot on their local ranges under match conditions and the scores will be submitted to the NRA to determine the winners. Awards and the usual mementos will be mailed. If you qualified for these matches and have not been contacted directly via email, or by your coach, about these changes you should contact Victoria Taylor at the NRA at vtaylor@nrahq.org ."

Fort Benning continues to take precautionary measures to protect the health of the force and maintain operational readiness. We’re constantly evaluating our current operations to ensure the safety of all of our Soldiers, family members and civilian personnel.

Tuesday, we implemented “hands-free ID card checking” at the access control points. Personnel entering Fort Benning still must follow proper procedures for access; however, the guards no longer have physical contact with identification cards or paperwork. This action is to protect everyone; security guards previously touched numerous cards and paperwork daily, and wearing gloves provides reasonable protection for the security guards by not touching any cards or paperwork, and visitors as well.

We’re using CDC-approved screening criteria for all personnel arriving here for training. This includes taking temperatures when recruits arrive at the reception battalion, asking about foreign travel and potential exposure to infected persons, and includes a medical screening for COVID-19-like symptoms.

The leadership at Fort Benning is considering the possibility of canceling events including graduations, Family Day activities and ceremonies. This is not a decision taken lightly and all considerations are included in the decision-making process because of the significant effect to so many people. With that, the leadership intends to make the decision(s) soon in order to minimize disruptions to travel plans.
