Referring to the post re Gatorade and suitability of water. the key is the amount of sweating. Sweat looses salt as well as water and re-hydrating with pure water can introduce dangerously low salt levels in very dehydrated individuals. So there may be a case for a sports drink if the competitor is sweating profusely.

"Two 34-year-old Oz men ended up in hospital after drunkenly deciding it would be a wheeze to shoot each other in the arse with an air rifle. According to Sky News, a police spokesman explained: "The men were sharing a few beers on Sunday evening when they thought it would be interesting to see if they shot one another with an air rifle, if it would penetrate their skin or it would hurt."It appears other than a bit of pain, the two men from the base of the Grampians [Victoria], thought they were fine. Two days later, both men have been admitted to hospital and require surgery to remove pellets from their buttocks and legs."

This morning's paper reports that 88 illegals have died in the Arizona desert this year, that they've found. Summer is here now and they think that number may nearly double in the next month. It usually hits over 400 by the end of year and that doesn't count the other border states (Texas, New Mexico, and California).

You just can not fool around with the heat.
