Can anyone on the list give me a reference for current rules about turning targets?
I am specifically interested in Rapid Fire Pistol, Standard Pistol and Center Fire Pistol Duello... and whether the "Red/Green" light system is/has replaced the turning targets in competition.

ISSF Rules
By the way - I have the 2005 Rules on .pdf and was looking for the 2008 - I cannot find them in Search mode...

http://www.issf-shooting.org/rules/engl ... 5_2nd.html is the current printing of the General Rules containing the 25m target systems - actually the 3rd printing of the 2005 rules. The ISSF rules change the year after the Olympics; the next will be the 2009 rules and there are no changes to the current specifications for 25m targets.
The red/green lights arenot used for turning targets, they are used on the electronic targets for 25m

Re: ISSF Rules
If you have the 2nd printing of the 2005 rules then you have the latest there are. There is a 3rd printing but I think that only changed the Athlete Eligability and Drugs sections, certainly nothing in sections 6 or 8.tleddy wrote:By the way - I have the 2005 Rules on .pdf and was looking for the 2008 - I cannot find them in Search mode...
They only issue main rules to be effective from the 1st January following the Olympics. The next rules will be 2009 (hopefully issued this year). They then amend/correct them but don't change the year reference until after the next Olympics.

Tillman, there are slight differences between the ISSF rules and the USAS rules. If your interest is PTO's, etc in the U.S. you can find the USAS version of the ISSF rules on the USAS web site. Not sure if there are differences with respect to your turning target question. The red/green light system cannot be used on fixed, non turning, targets unless one has a way to determine late shots e.g. an IPSC type shot timertleddy wrote:Can anyone on the list give me a reference for current rules about turning targets?

Re: Turning Targets for International Shooting
Obviously under ISSF rules the red/green lights are part of the electronic scoring target system and can only be used that way. The target system itself will pick up late shots. The lights cannot be used with paper targets.Fred Mannis wrote:The red/green light system cannot be used on fixed, non turning, targets unless one has a way to determine late shots e.g. an IPSC type shot timer
