Hammerli SP20 RRS

Post by Brian James »

I am curious to by and large how people are finding the Hammerli SP20 RRS (22lr and 32 S&W) in terms of reliabliy? I am aware that many SP20s suffered from cracked frames early on, and I was wondering if Hammerli has fixed this problem, redesigned the frame, or left the problem as is....

Thanks

Brian

My wife had one of the very first SP20s soon as they came out (about 1995 I think). She shot many tens of thousands of rounds and the only problem was a small spring broke in the trigger mechanism (trigger bar spring). This happened very early on and was replaced by Hammerli free of charge. The new on had an extra coil in it. The problem never recured.

This pistol was stolen in 1999 and was replaced with another SP20 which worked flawless until she retired from shooting last year.

However, she only ever shot European standard velocity ammunition not American standard velocity which is hotter.

The only cracked frames that I ever heard about were in the .32 version.
