Margolin 22 Pistol

Post by shadow »

I stumbled upon Simpson Ltd (http://www.simpsonltd.com) website. Sometimes they list TOZ free pistols under Margolin. In addition to the free pistol there are many Margolin 22 pistols in the $700 range. Like the TOZ many of these are in wooden boxes and date back to the 1950s. I am just curious (not in the market for one) about these pistols. has anyone had firt hand experience with them. Should they be considered for Conventional or International shooting?

I have owned 2 Margolins, and currently own one. The reason I purcahsed it was to teach young shooters how to shoot and to have a simple no-nonse standard pistol that would always.

The bore line is a little high compared to many modern pistols, but it shoots quite well. The gun is accurate, and simple to run. The barrel is a bit light but that can be overcome with a little bit of lead.

I would not pay $700 for it - they run for a bout 275$ NIB here in Canada if you can find them.

Margolin MCM

Post by Mike Taylor »

There is a pair of the Margolin MCM currently being sold on www.canadiangunnutz.com:
"Pistols are new-unfired, comes with case, extra magazine and usual Russian spare parts kit."
Priced at $500 (Cdn) for the pair.
As Brian said, it benefits to hang some weight under the barrel for sustained fire. Very accurate - at least the one I owned some twenty (or so) years ago.
Disclaimer: I have no vested interest in the advertised pistols.

Margolin

I had Margolin about 15 years ago. It was extreamly reliable and accurate. But it was difficult to shoot because of light barrel, so consider to make/have weights on barrel. My Margolin was made in USSR and quality was good, I dont know if made in Russia have equal quality. In competitions you should consider to have IJ35, but as starter gun Margolin is great.

I'm still using one the odd time at the range... as it's been said before, the front of the gun is one the lite side and requires a little more work on your part for the time/rapid course of fire.

A friend who's a machinist is suppose to duplicate the factory muzzle weight (a two piece thing that clamps on the barrel)... but like many things in life, it as yet to materialize...

Target grips are available from Hungary, the inletting of the frame required a little sanding. But for $100, I'm not complaining.

The Margolin is a nice pistol... but I couldn't see myself spending $700 for one...

Safe shooting,
Mike.

Sillymike, where did you bought your Margolin target grips? I have tried to find one. Someone makes them is US but it is easier to buy in Europe, dont have to pay any taxes.

Hei Jer,

I got them from Dennis Marschalko (http://marschalgrips com/), I've bought a few things from him and I found him to be a good good guy to deal with.

Mike.
