What is the best smallbore prone rifle? PRONE ONLY

Post by metermatch »

If anyone is still interested in what rifles the top shooters are using, here is a current sampling:

I'm currently at the OTC in Colorado at the Rocky Mountain Championships. Yesterday, for fun, they had a 2 times finals to eliminate 8 of 16 shooters, then a shootoff to elininate the rest one by one to get a winner. They used the best International shooters and US shooters. Ist prize $500, 2nd $300, 3rd got $200

At a quick glance, I saw 14 anschutz rifles and 2 Walthers. No FWB. Maybe I missed one or two, but close enough. No whining.

Tom Tamas won 1st, Anschutz.

2nd was the #1 ranked Russian, Martinov?? shooting a borrowed Anschutz.

3rd I forgot who it was.

Also, of the Anschutz rifles, it was about 50-50% of round action and square action. Interesting.....

Kind of what I remembered 20 years ago - 80-90% Anschutz, rest others.

Remember - I noticed this for PRONE ONLY SHOOTERS. I know I am going to get some argument here, because people don't see that I write PRONE ONLY SHOOTERS IN THE US SHOOT ANSCHUTZ, as the guys that also shoot 3P will likely shoot their 3P guns for English Match.

So I will say it again - PRONE ONLY SHOOTERS.

PRONE ONLY SHOOTERS
PRONE ONLY SHOOTERS

overwhelmingly shoot Anschutz in the US. PRONE ONLY SHOOTERS
PRONE ONLY SHOOTERS........

Martinov is from Belarus, not Russia. He usually shoots a round action 1913.
