Scaled Down Targets for Home Dry Fire practice

Post by Elmas »

Has anyone tried reducing the 10 m Olympic Air Pistol target to a size approprate for dry firing at a 2.5 m distance in cramped home surroundings ? Will it work ?

For dry firing against a target yep it will probably be OK. Try using something like a 6y rifle target - you will obviously need to work out the optimal distance but it should be OK for 2 or 3 metres (I haven't done the maths though). For my dry firing I only do so against a white background (or reversed target). One other thing I'd suggest is you black out the rings on whatever you choose. At 2 or 3M you will probably be able to focus on the white lines - which will distract you.

If you download the free Scatt software you will be able to print scaled targets.

You should be aware though that you will not get the same sight picture as you will probably be able to get the sights and target in reasonably sharp focus at only 2.5 m

Hello Elgas,

I think the attached link below may solve your problem. There you have Free Pistol, Air pistol, Standard/Sport Pistol and Centerfire Pistol targets scaled down to 3 mt. distance dry fire practice.
