What might a Margolin go for these days?

A friend has one with the weight and wooden box, tools etc.
He is missing the extractor. What price should he ask for it?

Here in New Zealand, used Margolins like the type you describe (i.e. cased with barrel weights - but with their extractors!) sell for about the equivalent of (US) $150 - $250 dollars. They can still be purchased new for $250 but the older Soviet-era ones are preferred by many because their triggers are often much smoother than the current production. They are probably the most popular club training pistol there is in Australia and NZ and because of their low cost (but excellent accuracy, trigger and reliability) are often the first pistol that many newbies purchase. In the right hands they are still capable of setting excellent scores (our current national Men's Sport Pistol record was shot with a Margolin).

Those prices are nuts! The sellers seem to think that they are either rare or collectible - and they are neither. They are also massaging the truth somewhat in their description that it is an "Olympic level" gun. It was in the 1950's and 60's - but in a much modified and customised form.
Below is a scan taken from a local dealer's 2006 catalogue. $399 NZ currently equals US$246 - but this price also includes 12.5% sales tax. It's well worth that price - but certainly not worth more than a IZH-35m.
