Schutzen Heil!

Mit sicherm Blick und keckem Mut, Triffst Schutze dieses Ziel du gut!
"With keen eyesight and bold courage, the shooter will hit the target well".

Regards

Robert
(1/4 german and still dutch)

P.s. Sounds like a quote from the "Tigerfibel" or a Snipermanual.

Thank you for the help metallyrob.

Actually the text is on a poster hanging in over my shooting bench at home. I purchased the poster from our host last year. If you send me your email address, I'll send you a photo of it.

Funny, it's been hanging there all this time and I never knew what it meant until this morning when my wife asked me about it.

Schützen Heil = aprox. "Shooters Hello"

Mit sicherem Blick und Keckem Mut = aprox. "With focus and determination".
Triffst Schutze dieses Ziel du gut = aprox. "Shooter will make a good hit at this target!"

translations, sensu lato...

Well, sometimes foreign expressions and terms ought not to be translated word by word.

A better translation probably:

"With focus and determination, a shooter will achieve a good score".

Rgdz,
Mr. Dei.

I have got questions from friends about what the german expression "Heil" specifically means.

For those interested: Heil! translates directly to "Stay healthy".

End of topic.
