Free play in an Anschutz rear sight.

Post by Kiwi bob »

I have slight vertical play in my rear sight on my 1407 Anschutz smallbore target rifle. This is the older type sight and I have checked it over and can say it is not in the vertical slide. The play is something to do with the horisontal screw adjuster or pins.
Can anybody advise me with any adjustments I might make to get rid of this free play.

You did not say exactly which sight it is. I know that the older steel ones (not the cast alu ones) have a spring loaded ball bearing. Can't remember if it is in the windage block (that the aperture mounts to) or in the body but in any case it keeps pressure on the windage block. It is up near the top of the block. Mine wobbles in the elevation direction a tad too but when I push down it springs back. I think they do this because they have no way to take up slack as the windage screw and the pin wear.

Hi Bob,
Assuming you are from NZ. Which part ?

There are a couple of small screws for tightening up the slack on these sights, usually on the right hand side. However it is usually for the slack in the vertical movement, not a problem here.

You could check the the movement and a backlash with a DTI.
