Sight Riser Block - Advatages & Disadvantages for 10M AR

Post by Raj »

What are the advantages and disadvantages of having sight riser blocks? I know with sight riser blocks, you can eliminate canting the rifle, have the head in a stable position to have a balanced equilibrium and relieve the pressure in the neck. However, you reduce the pressure on your cheek piece with an upright head.

The new AR - Steyr LG110 and FWB P700 already incorporate the riser blocks into their rifles - Is this a growing trend among shooters?

Are therey any other pro/con that I need to know of. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Much obliged,

Raj: for me they allow me to get my head more straight up. On an air rifle you can't bring the butt down too far (rules) so either the butt is not in my shoulder or my head is scrunched down to get to the sights when I don't have the riser blocks on. For a standing only rifle I don't think there is any downside. In smallbore the downside can be that the riser blocks cause a higher than needed head position.

Some might say that with raised sights, the effect of variantion in cant angle on changes in point-of-impact becomes more severe.

In short, I say it doesn't. If you're interested, you can read more about this over here:
