New style scammers
Hello all,
Got burned by some good ones over Christmas. These guys are better than average at scamming. I put out a WTB for an air rifle and they answered my add. They sent me a drivers license of an older male Hispanic guy. Then an about 12 pictures of the air rifle. They wanted to use one of the payment apps so I said I would need a picture of the rifle with a today’s date and time first, which I got in about 20 minutes. I said okay, seems legit and sent them the money. Said the rifle shipped and I asked for a tracking number and was told “my brother shipped it for me I have to get it from him.” And then I started to wonder. He kept saying I’ll check for you all the time. I asked for the tracking number and dozen times and they always had an excuse and that’s when I knew I was scammed for good. I avoided them for years and did what I thought was the right thing but there’s no way I’ll ever send a direct payment again, not even to Jesus Christ, no blasphemy intended. So now I get to start saving all over again. Oh yeah, they then said they wanted to make it right and if I sent them even more money I would get an even newer air rifle with free pistols. I kept telling him I was broke, which I am, now. He finally figured out there was no money to be had and cut off all communications.
So even if you ask for a picture with a date and time you can still get hammered. And the little part in the back of my mind kept saying “too good to be true”. And I did’nt listen to it. From now on, I only pay with a way for me to get restitution and I’ll pay the extra 3.5%. They don’t take it I don’t buy it anymore. PayPal is it in these scamming times.
Thank you
Pat W

Re: New style scammers
Had a guy try to scam me last month.
I asked for a pic with his name and info next to it, and he sent one to me. I ran the photo through a photo editor and it showed he had photoshopped the pic.
The scammers are getting very creative

Re: New style scammers
Unfortunately this was not photo shopped, it was a good picture. That’s why I posted this.
Re: New style scammers
Maybe it's time to start asking for a short video instead of a still picture.

Re: New style scammers
Can you tell us which air rifle you wanted to buy??
Re: New style scammers
Always speak with the person selling the items, that will get rid of most people. I also had a guy ask for a live video chat of a more expensive walther lg400, had no problem with that and something I will be requesting too.

I got burned by this(these) guys over the holidays. One answered my WTB ad and referred me to another he vouched for. Learned my lesson.

Anytime you place a WTB ad you will get scammers for sure.
