Custom Grip for Air Pistol
Hello everyone,
I’m quite new to pistol shooting and am currently in the process of setting up my air pistol (Feinwerkbau P8X). I came across MESHPRO, which offers custom grips based on a hand scan (www.meshpro.de/custom). Has anyone here already had experience with them? Here's a link to a video that shows the process: https://youtu.be/5k1xj6-Kg-w?si=znVmP9pI6oIU16it
Thanks for helping!
Cheers
Paul

Re: Custom Grip for Air Pistol
Here is my two cents.
The best grip would be yourself modifying your own grip as you are the only one knows your own feeling the best. And from time to time, you may want to keep modifying it again and again to suit your needs as your skill is changing, your understanding to the air pistol shooting is changing, and you and your hand is changing.
As KZMNT said P8X’s grip is good enough for you to start with. That’s very true as I’m using P8X as well. Until you shoot well and know deeper about air pistol shooting and what you want from the grip, then you can go for a good looking fully customised grip if you want. Buy a new grip for now wont give you a big boost on your skill and score. If I was you I would rather use that money to get a coach for guiding me onto the right track or buy more pellets to shoot.
The link from MeshPro you attached is not a true customized grip, it’s just a standard version with some options that you can choose from. A true customized grip requires a prototype of your own grip that you are satisfied with. Then either MeshPro or Rink can 3D scan it and duplicate one either from 3D printing or out of wood.

Re: Custom Grip for Air Pistol
The Meshpro is an interesting take on air pistol grips. I am testing one now. Do I like it? Maybe. Less sweat during matches; it seems to aide wrist lock (for me). I have the Rink grip and the FWB grip for my p8X.... I need to make sure it is not simply a 'honeymoon' phase, for me...
I would suggest not spending any money on it, until you are sure you have grip problems that it might fix.
Shoot with what you have...unless you have the money to explore the alternatives- you will lose money trying, and discarding, different grips...folks will offer you about 1/2 of new, for a used grip in "pristine" condition- if anyone even wants to buy it.
Buying pellets with that money, and practicing, is a much better alternative.

Until you're scoring in the 550-560 range on a regular basis, I wouldn't worry about custom grips
Re: Custom Grip for Air Pistol
I customized a grip before I really had a good understanding of what my grip holding was like and I consider it a waste of time and money.
You have to really know how you grab your grip to get a consistent raise before doing any work on it. If every time you take the pistol you are holding it a bit different while you or someone is working on it you will not get a good result.

Hello everyone, and thank you very much for your helpful responses and insights! First of all, I must say that training and having enough pellets are my absolute priorities However, since I have rather "unusual" hands with a wide palm and short fingers, I find the hand scan that MESHPRO offers for a relatively low additional cost (€30) very interesting. @m1963: Did you create your grip using the hand scan, or do you have a standard size?

Re: Custom Grip for Air Pistol
It is a standard, large grip.
If you still want to try the MeshPro grip, then I suggest paying extra for the hand scan. It definitely does fit better if you do, otherwise you'll simply be getting another grip that doesn't fit you, except this one can't be modified like a wooden one can. I do suggest keeping your default grip though, and using the plastic one as a base from which you can start modifying the original.

I think you have some very good advice from Ramon OP.
I see far more bad modifications by owners than helpful ones.. most people just don't understand what they are trying to accomplish.. making the grip comfortable for your hand is one good thing, but if nots aligning to your NPA its not really helping you.

i'm considering making a portable grip dust containment system and being able to do do grip work at events in addition to Steyr sales and service..... but I've got to get my vision under control first

Re: Custom Grip for Air Pistol
I’ve been shooting with the new Feinwerkbau 900 equipped with MESHPRO parts for a while now, and I’m really impressed with the quality. A few days ago, I saw on Instagram that Robin Walter is also using a MESHPRO grip. This got me curious about the grip configurator, so I decided to give it a try and used the hand scan feature to order a custom grip for my Morini 162 EI.
The process was simple: I printed out a reference sheet, placed my hand on it, and took a photo with my phone. After that, I was able to make some useful adjustments, and that was it... now I´ll have to wait a couple of weeks I guess. I’m really excited to see how it turns out and I’ll share my impressions soon.
