Will vinegar remove oxide on Eley Tenex?
Does anyone have experience with cleaning oxidised ammo?
I've read a couple threads and found vinegar or vinegar mixed with salt can do the magic? But still want to double check before I do it as it's my first time dealing with oxidised ammo.
Thanks in advance.

From my experience, wipe it off with a dry towel, and move on. Cleaning loaded ammunition leads to misfires, alibis, and death (if one uses the ammunition for work.)

I did some research on this a while back when I was selling a bunch of old ammo. The white stuff isn't lead oxide, which is either yellow or red. The white stuff is more likely the lube oxidizing, and in my experience, whatever Eley uses tends to do it more than a lot of other brands. Just wipe it (lightly), and shoot it.

Do I need to apply some lube like Liqui Moly the synthetic oil after the wipe?

50% vinegar and 50% hydrogen peroxide will remove lead from barrels. I wouldn't use it on my bullets either.

Learnt. Thanks Stan.
GWhite was right. It’s just some lube oxide. Very easy to wipe off.

The lube on the noise of the bullets does nothing. There will still be lube in the grooves. It's probably fine without any additional lube unless you have a ton of the stuff. If you shoot a lot of it, you might get a bit of leading in the bore. Kleen-Bore "Leadaway" patches (very mild abrasive), or BoreTech Rimfire Blend will take care of that. A lot will depend on your barrel. .22 standard velocity ammo doesn't tend to lead very much in general, but that's assuming they have a proper factory coating of lube.lwy.todd.lu wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 7:44 pm Do I need to apply some lube like Liqui Moly the synthetic oil after the wipe?

Thanks master. I’ll keep an eye on the leading in the bore.
Yeah I use BoreTech Rimfire Blend and VFG felt for cleaning my .22.

BTW, I shot 90 rounds with my TOZ and put 10 rounds through my friends CZ rifle today. Those cleaned Eleys worked just fine.
