Pardini K12 cylinder disassembly

Post by tfixler »

I just found out the airport I’m flying out of will not let my Pardini K12 cylinders on a plane unless I can show zero pressure (which we know doesn’t) or have it disassembled enough to show no air is in it. I’m new to the sport and equipment so I don’t want to start messing with stuff without any knowledge. Can it be disassembled and if so how? Worst case I can mail them to my destination but I’d rather not. Any help is appreciated.

This is what I was originally told by my local TSA. I have flown out of that airport with no issues with cylinders with no issues dozens of times. Each airport has a different TSA process. The only airport, I know of, that was actually strict on the regulation was Colorado Springs. (Ironically)

BUT at the end of 2023 the regulation changed after a lot of hard work from a group of competitors and coaches.

Here is the changed regulation: https://www.federalregister.gov/documen ... 4B_DQCJ4PQ

See if this regulation helps settle the situation.

Worse case, shipping will be a much easier solution than disassembly.

I appreciate the link. Maybe mailing would be the best option. This sport is not popular in my area, so the TSA's ignorance may hinder me from checking the cylinders unless I can prove they're depressurized. I used to work at this airport as a police officer, so they know me, and I know them, but they are still insisting on visual confirmation that they are empty.

You can remove the air with the adapter screwed on and show them the integrated manometer.

Minimum pressure value on Pardini air cylinder is 70bar. You can't show on them zero, only that they are lower than 70.

I just screw in the adapter. No reason that shouldn't be accepted.
