My daughter's LP2 just malfunctioned during a dry firing session. The loading lever is no longer cocking the striker. The loading lever is still properly attached to the gun and is moving normally. It just appears to have no contact with the striker.
A metal pin came loose from somewhere. Diameter 2.00mm (0.079") and length 7.90mm (0.311"). Certainly that's at least a part of the problem, but I can't figure out where it belongs.
Thankful for any advice. The matter could be considered relatively urgent.
I'm guessing the problem is not related to the trigger. Maybe this is where that pin used to sit?
Maybe that used to be a separate pin sitting in a hole on the striker? My daughter's gun is an LP2 with serial 9001xx. Don't know if that's an older model.
It looks like they changed the design from having an integral pin to using a separate pin (or vice versa, depending on the serial numbers). If the round pin is loose enough to fall out again, you can try using a tiny amount of "retaining compound", which is basically a glue made by the LocTite folks.
If the integral pin is the newer version (which I suspect it is), you could try contacting Steyr or Pilkguns to see if your pistol can be retrofitted with one. Neal Stepp may also have the part you need.
At the very least, for peace of mind, I guess it would be good to remove and inspect the striker more closely. Probably not a very complicated procedure, but apparently it would require re-setting the velocity. I agree this is probably an older design.
Yes, removing the striker will require taking out the striker spring, which will mess up your velocity setting. If you mark it and take careful note of the orientation of the adjustment screw, you should be able to get it pretty close without a chronograph.
