Android App for 25M Standard/Sport Pistol (and others?)

Post by w4ti »

Hello,

I have searched the forum and also the Google Play store, and coming up a bit empty. Probably just using the wrong search terms.

In any case, I'm looking for an app for my Android phone similar to Bullseye Match. Specifically, I'd like to be able to have verbal range commands and the necessary beeps to signal start and stop for the various series. I don't need it to hear my shots or score me or anything like that.

What apps are you using that you are happy with on your Android for ISSF match(es) range commands?

Thanks,
Chase

So, I'm the author of BullseyeMatch and I've had this request in the past. Trouble is, I don't shoot ISSF, so I don't know what's important to implement. Plus, it's a lot of work to get these right, and shooters are tough to please. Oh, and my app is free (you're welcome :) .

Can you be more specific as to what you'd want? What exact matches, and what range commands? What timings, and what "exceptions" such as when to pause, when to turn targets, etc.

I promise to think about it, if I know what's needed...

I do enjoy your app, and thanks for making it, and making it free!

It didn't occur to me to reach out to you. Let me find a script/commands with the various times and send it to you via email.

25m Pistol Timer works great for Android. You can customize the course of fire

I'm a nerd, so I made my own app 😁 Mine is just for rapid-fire dry-firing, though

Looks like that one isn't supported on newer Androids

Here's the link to the app. I guess I have old androids.

I also use Interval Timer for holding drills. You can customize the intervals to emulate the sports pistol, standard pistol, and rapid fire pistol series.

I looked over the 2018 ISSF pistol training manual and identified the following minimal required calls. I also found the 2023 rules, but they are extremely more minimal, and neglect to specify 50m calls at all. And the 2023 rules omit the spoken timings, and add some words such as "For the..." and "sighting series"/"competition series". I have no idea what to make of the actual phrasing requirement.

Are these 2018 calls complete/correct? The rules do mention that competitors may recognize the calls by sound (not language), so what differences are actually customary?

I actually haven't ever shot a match; I was hoping I could use an app to help me get started doing so.

I was going to check the ISSF rulebook, but you already have covered that. I'm also heading to USAS Nationals, hopefully I can beg to see the script that they surely must have for matches. The NRA International Rulebook has some instructions that I've been reading to use for practice. I'll send my edition to you via email (don't know if it is any different than what is currently published or varies too much from ISSF).

Thanks so much for considering this, appreciate it!
