Tendinitis and age
I'm 74 and have developed tendinitis. It doesn't hurt much but as soon as I try to shoot it kicks up. Are my shooting days over ? I only do this for fun anyways but it's a long winter.
Re: Tendinitis and age
I've had tendinitis from other sports.
recommend you try an ultra sound treatment (worked wonders for me)

Hammer to shape, file to fit, paint to match...
Re: Tendinitis and age
Been there, done that, and more.
If you're sure it's only tendinitis, rest is absolutely part of the recovery. Better to take up chess this winter and go back to shooting when you're ready. If it's a recent injury, ice. If it's been going on more than a few days, heat.

Re: Tendinitis and age
Assuming that's all that it is, a TENS unit might help. I've used one regularly for about six months for shooting related shoulder problems and non-shooting caused sciatic. TENS has been a great help. Good units aren't expensive, less than $50.

Re: Tendinitis and age
No your shooting days are not over. You just need a bit of strength training.
Rest is not necessary, you just have to reduce the workload and test with your training. In fact, total rest is counterproductive.
Stretching will do nothing to cure it but it may reduce pain. I skip it now.
If you can find a sports phisiotherapist that is up to current standards, he/she will make you work a bit and give you some workouts to do.

Re: Tendinitis and age
I recently did something to my elbow, so I decided to take a little bit of time off. A friend of mine mentioned that he had once suffered the same sort of shooter/tennis/golfer's elbow, and recommended some exercises by a guy named Chad Reilly.

I've found these exercises to be on point, easy to do, and they absolutely seem to help. I started back with air pistol/22 and seemed to have knocked a lot of the pain out in the month or so of doing these exercises. I do a 3lb, 5lb, and 8lb weight @ 3 reps each, for the exercise where you place your arm on your leg and do wrist lifts. I don't use the 5 or 8 for any other sort of exercise; just to rehab and strength train.
Give it a shot! Only cost a few dollars for the weights at the play it again sports store.

Re: Tendinitis and age
Take a bit of a rest. But, while doing so, start shooting with the other hand.
Precision pistol shooting, beyond the fundamentals, is largely a mental game.
You might be surprised how quickly you progress with your other hand.
You might even be surprised that you can identify and solve other problems that may have become habitual through repetition.
If by any chance your existing condition has been caused or aggravated by your shooting technique, this would be a good opportunity to address the issue(s).
Best wishes for a speedy and healthy recovery!

Hello-
I experience tennis elbow off, and on. Especially when I increase training for a match. There are devices that relieve, and seem to prevent, the pain. One cannot wear them during a match, though. This is the one I use-

Whatever age, this can be a real PITA. Only hing that will keep it at bay is a good work out. It's a very common problem.
