Yes, it works as a page - just do not forget to visit it frequently to see all updates. But do not rely on "following" - it is up to FB what updates you will see on your home page (for niche pages like this most probably you will miss most of updates). Important part of organizing events is an ability to reliably broadcast notifications to everybody who is interested in them
