Re: MONTHLY AP LEAGUE JAN. 2020
My first match with an air pistol. Usually a rifle shooter but really enjoying learning the pistol side of the sport. Going to get some knoblochs to see they help with pistol as I have astigmatism and I wear a corrective lens when shooting smallbore/air rifle.

Yes! Smooth sailing all the way. This was a “postal match” in the Swedish National League. I Shot 562 in the December match. These last weeks I have been preoccupied with other things and just wanted to shoot. Did not care about the score. My goal was to keep all shots in the 9-ring. Well, when you least expect it, it all comes together...(almost anyway....still had two 8’s)

M 47 or 48??? I always forget, still think I'm 22
Crawled back another two point on the last comp cards. Feel like I'm getting my eye back in 'literally' so hard to focus on the foresight but it's coming back.

This has been a really rough month that I wish I could forget. First month since I started seriously training again that I feel like my level has decreased. Nothing has felt right, from my arm movement to my fit on the gun. It just left me unconfident to let shots break. Hopefully things improve soon. Most of my recorded scores were in the low 560s, below my average.

McMadcow sez, "Most of my recorded scores were in the low 560s, below my average."
Actually, they make up part of your "average." But that's the wonderful thing about this sport....it gives a numerical value to your mental and physical deterioration.

I just started shooting 10m pistol again over X-mas break after taking a break for 3 years. I used to average about 10 points higher. I hoping that will come back but I'm having a much harder time seeing the sights clearly compared to just a few years ago.

Im stuck on a plateu in my results and has been for a year and a half. Thought I had something today, turns out I didnt.
Im trying not to overthink it hoping for it to click into place sooner or later, I feel my technique is decent, but the mental game is lacking.
Anyways, Im still having fun with it even tho I get frustrated with myself in the moment.

Re: MONTHLY AP LEAGUE JAN. 2020
Actually, IIRC, that was a line uttered by Bette Davis in one of her films. I actually drank Scot's whiskey with her and another at the Oak Bar at the Plaza Hotel in NYC once. A story for another time.
I've been entering the monthly competitions on NetCompetitor, but will send in scores this month here as well. The best that I've ever shot was a 554. I used to average somewhere in the 520's. Then I began to age....I'm 71 now. Last June I had a prostatectomy at Dartmouth using the da Vinci robotic assist technology. Successful. I was walking within six hours and riding my bicycle six weeks later. Went back to 10 meter in December and it was a struggle to reach 500. All of those core muscles cut through, even with the minimally invasive da Vinci in the hands of an amazing surgeon, compromised core strength and stability. I've been walking (snow shoes now, too) and now using a rowing machine every other day. I'm now consistently in the 515 area. I'd like to shoot in the 540's by late 2021........stay tuned. :-)

Well, since I don't know "Betty", I'll have to take Renold's word for it. He was pretty adamant.
I slurped a bourbon Manhattan at the Oak Bar ($18) with a really beautiful woman during the big "Christmas Blizzard". That was really fun. Too bad the place went down the shitter when it was sold.

Ms. Davis (Bette) was a client of the law firm I was with back in the day before the Plaza was purchased in 1988 by Donald Trump who installed Ivana as President of the corporation running the hotel. Those of us native to NYC who were in any manner associated with commercial real estate in Manhattan used to refer to Donald as having a reverse Midas Touch. And then came Atlantic City. I always preferred having drinks in the late evening at The Sherry-Netherland. :-)Rover wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:22 am Well, since I don't know "Betty", I'll have to take Renold's word for it. I guess you're a bit more upscale than I was. I was thrilled to discover the Irish bars where you could get a shot and a beer chaser for $.99....and a corned beef sandwich on rye for a blotter.

Re: MONTHLY AP LEAGUE JAN. 2020
It isn't either/or.
In law school I would hang out at a bar called The Galway Bay. The bartender, Nelson, became a friend who was able to tell me much regarding the Laffertys that he knew growing up in Ireland. He would see me coming in after class and immediately have a Bushmills ready by the time I sat down. The bar closed a year or so later when the law school expanded into the Galway's space. I ran into Nelson about 12 years later in another bar in Tribeca at lunch time. The moment he saw me he started getting a Bushmills ready for me......
