Starter Air Pistol

Post by ASchlem »

New Izzy from Air Venturi, Hammerli ap20 or a used ??? I would like to stay around $800 or less. I mostly shoot bullseye but would probably get more into air itself it as time went on.

The 1911 air gun is probably not what I'm looking for. I would like to compete in our local winter matches

The LP2 can be purchased from Pilkguns, but is twice your budget.
I am personally soured on Hämmerli/Umarex service. Try calling them sometime, or email them with any general question, you'll see what I mean.
I have an IZH 46 that I think is a very nice shooting gun for the money, I just prefer pcp for serious match use. My assumption is not using any more effort that I need to shoot the match.
I am willing to pay for a nice airgun since 10K rounds of good 22 ammo will cost me as much as a top end air pistol.
I bought a LP10M six years ago and couldn't be happier.

If i found a LP10 used, can it be wore out? There is one on ebay that has stickers on it from around the world.

I would happily pay it's current price. The grips look like they have never been carved on or puttied. The stickers just show it has been used in competition. Any needed seals are readily available from Pilkinton and ebay. The downside is you still need a current scuba tank at $200.

If you do buy it PM me, I have some seals I will send you.

Facing the same question about a year ago, I balked at paying $2,000+ for a new air pistol, and picked up an old Walther CP2 from an estate. It needed more work than I expected, perhaps not uncommon with older air pistols. After a total investment of about $800 (including all new seals and springs, from Judith Billharz in Germany) I have a wonderfully accurate pistol, legal in my back yard. From a rest, this thing really will put every pellet in one hole at 10m. I like that it's a bit heavy, like my TOZ35. But if I were undertaking this project now, I'd wait to see if the just-announced AV-46M is any good.

Well, that's a first for me; I never thought I'd see a pistol listed on FleaBay.
Btw it's not 5 shot as stated in the description, but apart from that it's a good price...:D

Comparing it with mine, the grip appears to be a large. Mine fits well with a 93mm palm size.

I feel like I am in the same boat as the OP. Looking for a really good cross training air pistol (I shoot air rifle and SB) that doesn't break the bank and something I can't out grow too quickly.

Three hundred quid? Just like all the other low-end toys - you get what you pay for. If you're lucky!

Am I being too harsh?

That looks like a Styer copy. Could the patent have run out?

A patent is granted for 20 years and the design patent is good for 14 years, the LP10 was introduced back in 2000...

Also, it says 3.3lbs. Isn't that above the ISSF weight limit? It's darn heavy, regardless.

The ISSF weight limit for Air Pistol is 1500g, which is 3.306934lbs.

I agree though, that is heavy.

I posted this before.

I have no dog in this fight, but you would still have to buy a SCUBA or compressor (forget a pump).

If you're really cheap, a Daisy 747. You could try any of the SSPs out there. I personally like my Walther LPM1, or you could try a Pardini K58.

It might help if we knew you weren't in Lower Slobovia.
