Ballistic rubber trap

What would happen if this ballistic rubber block is used as target holder/ target trap for 10m air pellet ?

Will bounce off? Will stop progression inside block? Will go through, but slow it down a lot by the time it hits metal plate?

This ballistic rubber trap should work superbly. However, it starts at $85.

Personally, I use a Champion Metal Trap, both indoors and outdoors. This one on Ebay for $83.55, but you can find them for $40 if you look around. Criticism on these is that they do let some lead escape - okay for outdoors, but indoors my redneck housecat licks up the lead & then freaks out and attacks the neighbor's pit bull . . . .

I don't know why you guys go to such trouble and expense to shoot a pellet gun.

A cardboard box full of rags (NOT paper) will stop any pellet. The more you use it, the more effective it becomes. You never empty it. When you shoot a case or two of pellets into it, you throw it away or melt down the pellets.

Rover, now that sounds like cheapest and easiest method and when you get a hole in the side of the box, then just get a piece of cardboard to pin target to.

I also use the rolled up rags method. Works great and it cuts down on the noise too.

When I was a kid, my father made a trap that used strips of inner tube hanging down, backed up by old towels & the legs of jeans. Because they were suspended, they soaked up a lot of energy before they got perforated. The only downside was that it was pretty large.

I use a box of the rubber mulch -- I didn't have enough rags to fill a box. :)

The only downside is that it's pretty heavy, but I probably used a lot more than I needed to.

I have been using the cardboard box filled with rags for years and have found nothing as easily made up or inexpensive to use since.

For cost, silence, pellect catching and ease of use you cannot far wrong with the carboard box and rag trap. Don't fire against a rubber ballistic curtain meant to catch splatter from rimfire or center fire as the pellets return to you even if you are firing 25m from it, got the "T" shirt for that one.

The backplate can be replaced (I use a thicker aluminum plate) and it is spring loaded (see 3rd pic on ebay).
It's easy to make the trap quieter by adding foam or other soft material behind the plate.
Pellets are contained in the trap (they get mixed with little paper pieces, but it's easy to separate that) and can be easily removed.

The sold rubber blocks should not be used for air rifle or air pistol. We had these in our range before we went to electronic targets and I can tell you the pellets bouce right back at you. We installed tarps in front of the blocks to stop the ricochets.

I built a pellet trap for 10M AP in the garage. Consists of a hanging plywood backstop, with an attached metal box containing duct seal putty. As mentioned the duct seal traps most of the lead and deadens noise.

With the first version I hung targets from large paper clips and a clip with a weight on the bottom. Gehmann traps have a better design, with a slotted frame to holt targets that makes changing them faster and easier. Nosing around Home Depot I found inexpensive aluminum material for screen frames had a usable slot for this application. I cut some up and expoxied a press board in the bottom to act as a stop for the target and help make the frame rigid.

Also fastened a heavy foil turkey pan to collect debris.

It works fine now I've got work to do....
