Side Blinder
Hi Mako,
The front blinder is OK, but I think they want the side blinder to be 40mm deep, and horizontal not exceeding forward of the forehead line.
Turn your side blinder 90 deg to horizontal.

Re: Side Blinder
I interpreted "40 mm DEEP" to mean Wide ...
(for those that haven't seen the new rules, look down the listing to see the posting with the new ISSF rules)
hmmm ... how do we find out what the proper interpretation is?
Either way ... the side binders don't do much when they are only 40 mm deep, wide, long ... whatever ... :-(

I agree with David M. When they meant wide they said wide.

Re: Photos of New ISSF Binder Sizes .... :-(
And what happens when an athlete using these new mini-blinders takes a hot empty behind their glasses and scars an eye, possibly ending their Olympic career...?
Personally, I can see someone suing the living crap out of the IOC, ISSF and any NGB that enforced this rule for knowingly and willfully endangering the athlete's health and safety by prohibiting use of the safety equipment that a reasonable and prudent athlete would want to use to prevent just such injury.
What are these people thinking...???

Sorry, David, I'm still confused. With reference to the side arms of the shooting glasses, is "deep" parallel or perpendicular to the arm?

From my understanding deep is perpendicular to the arm. There is no specification for the width of the blinder but, if there were, it would be parallel to the arm. In the same way, the width of the weak eye blinder is measured parallel to the shooting glass cross-bar.
That's how I read it anyway.

Since safety is ultimately an individuals personal responsibility, does anyone know where I can find a pair of clear plastic side lenses (please note the word change) with only the ISSF mandated "blinder" section obscured?

Scott, the same thing that happens when someone takes a hot empty behind their glasses today.
Is the sky is falling again? First the pants and now the glasses. You all sound like a bunch of welfare cases. Save time and lives, go get a bunch of tabacco lawyers and sue the pants off(that's a pun for all you pinheads) the ISSF before someone scratches a leg or gets a cold.
I bet if they tried changed the target paper you lot would complain that the color will make you go blind.
LMAO!
You ISSF whiners are the worst group of faineant snobs I have ever seen. These are rule changes by our leaders of this organization. If you dont like it, get new leaders or get a new organization. There are lots of ways to skin a cat. But change is going to follow you no matter where you go. If it's not something, it is something else.

A better solution ?
The way I read the new rule, possibbly the best solution will me to use a second lens holder on the non shooting eye and use a 30mm wide vertical strip of Magic tape (opaque sticky tape) covering the inner half (closest to your nose).
The extra lens will offer some greater eye protection than just a blinder on its own.
Also, if your shooting lens has a defocus or tint, remember to set the second lens up with these as well to prevent sore eyes.

Re: Photos of New ISSF Binder Sizes .... :-(
Tom,
Thanks for your most insightful comments. You know, you just might be right.
Me, I'm just a poor, dumb-ass ol' shooter, having practiced the sport for a decade and a half, along with being a certified rifle and pistol coach, internationally published shooting sports journalist, the associate TV producer of the world-wide host broadcast for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, a former staffer at USAS, contributor to ISSF News, and virtually other shooting sports magazine in the country.
After all that, what the hell should my opinion count?
When I see ISSF, USAS, NRA or any other organizaton going down what all that experience and background leads me to believe is the wrong path, I feel it is my responsibility as an athlete, coach and journalist to raise concerns and discuss the issue in a fair, honest and open manner in a suitable forum, such as TT.
However, one doesn't want to waste one's time and effort where one's opinion isn't respected. Tom, I'll gladly holster my keyboard and ride off into the sunset as you LYAO. I've got deadlines to meet.
Adios.
Scott

That sounds like a good idea but what do I know.
I stopped using a cap several years ago when a gust of wind lifted it and my earmuffs off in the middle of a series. I never really bothered with using side shields on my shooting glasses and the only reason I used a blinder over my non-shooting eye was in the mistaken belief that my coach (deceased) could not see that I was shutting my eye. I was wrong, the old bugger could see everything.
