how tight of a group required for Olympic 50m .22 rifle

Im looking to qualify a rifle for 50m 3p ISSF and Olympic shooting.

Just took and an Anshutz to Lapua test center. It groups at 14.6mm at 50m. I don't think that's good enough if the 10 ring is 10mm at 50.

What is an acceptable group size for 50m 3p? Under 10mm? Who makes a rifle that will shoot well enough. Where can I buy one?

I spoke to Creedmoor and they said the new 54:30 Anshutz shoots just about 10mm at 50m. Im seeking something better. Is there better?

That is the problem with International Smallbore. It has become an equipment race to try and make guns that can shoot a perfect score, even using integer scoring. Once they went to decimal scoring, the race just became that much more expensive.

The rifle is only part of the equation. A rifle does not qualify ... the shooter qualifies. Now .... you do need a good tool - the rifle is the tool.

In my experience testing guns ... for both NCAA & ISSF/USAS shooters: (tested@50m)
Under 15mm is easily acceptable for NCAA shooting - that is only at 50ft - roughly 1/3 the distance
Most shooters guns used for ISSF shooting will be acceptable under 14. I try for 13.5 to 12. And that usually takes going thru many lots of ammo from both Eley & Lapua.
Very difficult to get under 12 I think.

Take a gun that shoots under 12 one day and it will shoot 13 the next.
There are so many variables ... how do you make them all the same from range to range??? Impossible.

Suggestion: Do the testing and get the best you can afford. That is in both $$$ and the time it takes you to do the testing.
Hint: Score will get better faster the more you train ... not by going with the newest, fanciest gear. Train, train & train some more

A note: In 2015 in one gun the rifle shot 12.5 to 13 (consistently) with simple SK (Lapua) STD+.
After 10K rounds of that, the best I could get was 14.5 with MIDAS.

A final PS: Don't trust any group sizing less than 20-40 rounds. Most mfgrs only shoot a 3-5 round group

It also depends on how good a shooter you are. For 95% of shooters just any old good shooting target rifle will be fine and these discussions of rifle accuracy are a waste of time. These shooters should just buy a quality rifle that fits and shoots well then spend the the rest of their wad on sk standard plus and spend the time practicing.

Agreed nothing better than practice but were dealing with a great shooter who is held back by equipment in this case.

We have been here before in F-TR. A better shooting rifle made the difference between winning and just chasing the leaders.
