My son (14yrs old) is going through the steps now to get his NRA Distinguished Expert ... He has recently upgraded to a 1913, and the rifle will soon be getting a buttplate with a hook for ISSF competition. It is my interpretation of the rules that for Juniors, no hook is allowed at all - I wanted to confirm this was the case, and if not, what the limitations are.
Thanks.

Re: Hook for Junior NRA Distinguished Expert etc.
The wording of your question is somewhat confusing. Are you asking about ISSF rules or NRA rules?
Re: Hook for Junior NRA Distinguished Expert etc.
The hook requirement depends on which NRA rule is being used. If you are using 3.4 (junior rifle), not hook is allowed, but under rule 3.2 (any rifle) the ISSF legal hook would be fine.
Re: Hook for Junior NRA Distinguished Expert etc.
Thanks Pat... I assume since he is a junior (14yrs of age) that he would be under the junior 3.4 rule, or do all shooters working to obtain their Expert, Distinguished Expert, etc. operate under the 3.2 rule?
Re: Hook for Junior NRA Distinguished Expert etc.
I don't know about "All" shooters under 14, but in our club we never used the old junior rule (3.4). Everything was rule 3.2 (any rifle). Check with the club he is shooting in.
Re: Hook for Junior NRA Distinguished Expert etc.
Any rifle with iron sights can be used, not just the "junior rifle".
