Walther SSP "Spezialfett" special grease

Post by uladz »

Walther SSP owners, what do you use instead of "Spezialfett" special grease? Any specific brand and type recommendation? Manual says to use only this super special secret lube and does not provide any information about substitute when you run out of it. Walther stopped selling it long time ago as it seems. I found some older threads about the same topic discussing that any silicone grease from a dive shop will work, but there was also opinions that it might not be a good idea to use it on aluminum surfaces. Common consensus is that the special grease is required to to o-ring seals in the air damper. Advice and opinions are welcome, thank you!

Greetings,

Long ago, I wrote to Walther about grease.

They replied saying to use LIQUI-MOLY LM 47 MoS2-Langzeitfett.

https://products.liqui-moly.com/lm-47-l ... os2-1.html

I found it in a 100 gram tube.

It is also used to grease CV Joints on Automobiles.

Cheers,

David

Thank you David. Do you use it on your SSP instead of this specialized gread to lube the spring and the buffer? Thanks!

Greetings,

Originally, I contacted Walther about lubrication of the sear notch on an SP-20.

I use it on all my firearms.

Do use it sparingly. A little goes a long way.

Oh yes, after you shoot about 50 rounds, check the trigger weight again. Most cases, it will be lighter than before.

There are many formulations of Moly Grease. I figured if I used the stuff that Walther suggested I would be fine.

Cheers,

Dave

As I understand, the grease used for the air damper in SSP is radically different from the normal gun oil you would use for the rest of your gun parts. I have a variety of gun oils I normally use on all my guns, but the air damper uses rubber seal (o-ring) that can be damaged by any petroleum base oil rendering the system unusable. If Walther recommended this LIQUI-MOLY LM 47 MoS2 for sear I'm don't this that's the right stuff to use on the seals in the air damper. So I come back to my previous question Dave, if you are using this grease on SSP for the air damper system? Thank you very much, good discussion!!!

@seamaster what do you think about other silicon based Super Lubes:
Super Lube 56104 Silicone Oil 100 CST, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OBV1JC2
Super Lube 56204 O-Ring Silicone Lubricant, Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C3CZ9CL
Thanks!

Avoid silicone based lubricant for high pressure, high temp environment. I am no chemical engineer, but I do know under those condition, oxygen-silicone bond start to break down, what it turn into, I have no idea.

Would use non-silicon based pneumatic tool “hot sauce”.

I’m also in the same boat and will need some more special grease. Still have no idea what to get in the us?

Can the special grease be ordered from someplace that ships to the us?

@seamaster depending on the material of the o-rings Walther uses in SSP the Super Lube air tool lubricant might not be comparable as well according to think chat https://www.super-lube.com/Content/Imag ... ricant.pdf. As more I ding it not this as more I think we need to get an official answer from Walther.

Greetings,

I may have misunderstood your post.

"SSP" = Single Stroke Pneumatic Air Pistol?

Or. is what you have the SSP 22lr Standard Pistol?

I have little knowledge of lubricating Air Pistols.

I was actually asking about 22LR pistol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_SSP, apologies if SSP model was misleading, I did not know that it might be interpreted as airgun :).
