Effective immediately as mandated by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the Olympic Training Center (OTC), any athlete over the age of 18 or coach in attendance at an event being held at the United States OTC, needs to have passed and completed the SafeSport training and Background Check. If you have not completed this within the last two years, you can now do so through your USA Shooting member profile login. Moving forward Background checks are valid for two years, and SafeSport will be valid for one year with a ½ hour refresher each following year.

Required SafeSport Training - Winter Airgun Championships
In case you haven't heard, USA shooting announced a couple of new requirements that you will need to fulfill prior to competing at the upcoming Winter Airgun Championships at the OTC:
Re: Required SafeSport Training - Winter Airgun Championships
As a note here - All of the USAS staff that deal w/ athletes as well as volunteers have, for years, been required to complete the SafeSport training.
While it does take time to go thru the training, it is well worth it
With all of the issues with USA Gymnastics, USA Swimming and others, I feel ANY SHOOTER, and especially those younger that 18 that train, travel, etc with someone other than a family member should take this training.
This is not just for shooting, but all US NGBs in the Olympic Sports
Check it out & take the training: https://uscenterforsafesport.org/
For parents: Check into the Disciplinary Database area to check out a coach. All NGBs should be reporting any issues.
It is amazing to see how many have been disciplined/sanctioned in one sport or in one location and then have moved onto another sport or location and have been "caught" again.
Another very good site for any Athlete, Coach or parent is the USADA site
USADA is the national anti-doping organization in the United States for Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American, and Parapan American sport.

One of the absolute best presentations I've ever seen at a junior camp was a USADA rep coming in and talking to the kids and answering a myrid of their questions.

Background check cost $30 and the online training takes about 45 minutes.

Interesting. It took me more than four hours to complete the SafeSport training. Chip, instead of AP you should try competing in RF ;-).
On a serious note, I think it is very well done training course. Kudos to the people who put it all together.
