I am thinking of buying a ruger mkII...putting target grips, a V-Comp compensator, target sights and a target trigger on it. Can i compete in - standard, sport, and free pistol competitions with this same gun???

thanks for any info!!!

I would not take that route, for several reasons.
First, the rules for standard and sport pistol prohibit using compensators. So the V-comp is out. It IS legal to shoot free pistol with a repeater, but you have to single-load the gun (many smaller shoots waive this rule)
The real problem is value for the money. By the time that you've got the gun, replaced the grips, replaced the sights, and tuned the trigger, you're in the price range of a S&W Model 41 or an older High Standard in good shape, and those are a far better value. Or an Izh-35 with a set of Morini grips. Even a Pardini SP or Unique DES-69, if you look around - and those two are MUCH better guns.
The Rugers are popular because they are cheap and common. But very few people who've owned a better gun would ever go back.
