Anschutz 9003 groups way off center

Post by PantelisTsk »

Hello. Recently I noticed during my training sessions (and probably at least in one competition) that my Anschutz 9003 has off center groupings to the left and down. It's not a very difficult to solve problem (as I can solve it before the end of the sighting shots by adjusting the sights), but I can't find any reason for this occurence. After the competition in which I think this problem was first encountered I raised the sights a bit. Your thoughts?

I am certainly no expert, but I'll throw out the first ideas... :)

If you moved the sights up, may that have changed your head position?
Has the stock shifted to touch the barrel somewhere under the barrel? Maybe even a piece of debris between the barrel and stock?

Just curious....are you shooting on an Electronic Target, Single Bull Paper Target, or Multi-Bull Paper Target?

I use single bull paper targets, the problem just appears and dissapears between training sessions. Otherwise the weapon works perfectly and the place of cheek piece and butt plate were adjusted according to the movement of the sights up. No other changes were made.

Check barrel clamp. Loosen it and retighten. Maybe you accidently hit the barrel

Do you warm the regulator with a couple of pops before you start shooting and have you used a chronograph it to see if it is working correctly?

While only a prone shooter.
I do know that altering the pressure or position of the Buttplate on your shoulder will shift a group.
As well cheek pressure or the trigger hand position.
Variation in centering the rear sight caused by changing head position on the cheek piece.

Clamp the gun in a vise ... I use a Workmate for airguns
Shoot a series of say 60 shots, on ly look at the group. If it tends to wander, I'd question the operation of the regulator
