Can anyone kindly direct me to a video or text showing how to replace the main seal on an IZH-46 Baikal air pistol?

What do you mean by main seal? Piston cup or valve seal. The later is more difficult to get to.

I have no idea.... must be the valve seal. The pumping lever seems to be stacking up air, and closes like normal, but when fired, you only get the "dry fire" click..... is it something the owner can handle, or should I send it somewhere?

This doesn't sound like seals, it's probably something mechanical.

After closing (compressing) the cocking lever, did you notice any air leaking by lowering the breech bolt?

Do you give periodic oiling (pellgun oil) to the piston seal of your Izzy?

How about this? I called MAC 1 airguns, to see if I could get it repaired..... I think I talked to Mac.... and he said, "Let me guess! You're a religious user of Pell Oil, correct?" I admitted that, yeah, I was, mainly because that's what I've read should be done. He said, "Don't use that anymore! It gums up the gun! Hit it with a hair dryer, loosen up that gunky oil, and it should start working again."

Voila. Five minutes with a hair dryer and the gun is shooting like new! Learn something every day, right?

Did Mac 1 mention to continue using pellgun oil in your pistol or did he recommend using his “secret sauce “? I think they’re both of the same composition more or less, (non detergent 30 weight motor/hydraulic lubricant).

don't use oils in airguns, at all. Use grease for moving parts, food grade silicone grease for o-rings, for the surface use something like ballistol, it's very light and water soluble, not gonna clog up anything.

Feinwerkbau grease, ballistol I used everywhere (LP10, LP1, Walther guns, FWB 65, Morini 162) and never had anything clogged up.

pellgun oil is motor oil.

Guess I'll look at FWB special grease.....

How did I get along for 14 years without the secret sauce? I think the problem was the excessive original factory rust-preventative grease that gummed up on some pistols. 30W non-detergent motor oil works well for periodic lubrication, pellgun oil works even better. Periodic lubrication will prevent gumming up the works, no matter what is already there. Just my 2 cents worth.

Gene Salvino, who is the Senior Gunsmith for Air Venturi does a LOT of IZH repair work. I think he does all the warranty work for Pyramyd.

In any event, he specifically told me to use air tool oil on the IZH's. The team I help coach has about 15 IZH's, and I've never encountered a problem I could trace to the use of air tool oil.

What's air tool oil..... from Air Venturi?

Real cheap, and compatible with O-rings. Available from almost any hardware or home supply store. I bought a small bottle (4 oz?) of Bosch air tool oil for about $5 at Home Depot. "Pellgun" oil is WAY overpriced by comparison.

You guys have that right. I'm still using a package of Beeman chamber lube that must be thirty years old. Recently I cut it with some air tool oil we have hanging around the range shop since it was getting kinda gooey.

No problems so far.
