Center shot on electronic target vs NRA inner 10 on paper
The NRA rulebook defines an "inner ten" on an air rifle target as one where the 10 dot has been "shot out completely". Electronic targets score an air rifle center shot or X when the value is either 10.27 or 10.28, I believe. Does anyone know if these are equivalent, or not? If not, does anyone know the electronic target value of an NRA inner ten?

Do you mean smallbore?PaulB wrote:The NRA rulebook defines an "inner ten" on an air rifle target as one where the 10 dot has been "shot out completely". Inner 10 or X on the 10m air rifle bull is 10.2.

Talking air rifle. So, is a 10.2 on air rifle the same as a "inner 10", that is taking out the dot, under NRA rules?
Re: Center shot on electronic target vs NRA inner 10 on pape
X=Inner 10, yes.
I think it's easier to "eyeball" an inner 10 by looking at the outside edge of the shot. If you can put a whole dot in between the shot and the outer ring. But a lot of folks say I'm backwards!

Some 10.2 are X some are not

Hrumph ... ???
I'm pretty sure that 10.2 defines an X in Air (not SB).
Way back when while working with the linear gauges to score tenths we always had 10.2 as an inner ten. (Really only used in Finals)
Even now .... I've looked thru a few of my match scorecards off of one type of EST (Megalink) and I never see an 10.2 w/o an X mark
On my ORION data (paper scored electronically) I never see a 10.2 w/o a center 10 designation
Oh ... just remembered ... If you are scoring paper w/ a gauge:
1) Make sure you are using the proper gauge (AP Outer)
2) Make sure your gauge edge is as perfectly round .... no dents or flatspots
3) Make sure that gauge is not worn and still within the correct diameter
We had a worn gauge at one time that had a flatspot and if you rotated it in the hole you could see a piece of the dot in one location. If it has ever been dropped, it's probably flatspotted.

J, sorry my friend. I think your right and i confused sb and air. I looked back at targets before i posted but i think i mistakenly looked at fifty ft sb
Re: Center shot on electronic target vs NRA inner 10 on pape
On electronic targets, the system measures the distance of the centre of the projectile from the centre of the target (rather than using the edge of the hole in relation to rings).jhmartin wrote:Hrumph ... ???

As a result, the system will round up or down from a 10.22 or 10.26.
This is assuming it's the same for air as for sb (which is what I mostly shoot), but at 50metres I have certainly had 10.3s be counted as bare 10s and as inners on Sius targets depending whether it was a "good" 10.3 or a "bad" 10.3!
It's a quirk of the fact that you're rounding a much more precise measurement into a system of discrete scoring steps.
Re: Center shot on electronic target vs NRA inner 10 on pape
Air rifle - 10.2 = inner (exactly)
50m smallbore - 10.35 = inner
So in 50m some 10.3's will inner's, others won't make it.
