Need some help / advice.
I have two High School athletes entering the small bore arena, one is a small petite shooter and another 6'' 2' ft. shooter.
What is the advantage between the Anschutz 1907 & 1913 other than barrel length / weight?
I have researched the Walther, Anschutz, FWB, and several other "custom" rifles from CZ to Remington actions.
Help!
And much thanks in advance.

Hi,
The action is identical between a 1907 and 1913, so the difference lays in the weight and balance; the 1907 is 3cm shorter and 300g lighter than the 1913. I have seen petite girls shoot successfully in Prone with a 1913 barrel (though I'm not sure how much choice they had in their rifle), but most women chose the 07 barrel so there is less mass in front of the supporting hand in any position. Most adult male prone shooters will pick the heavier barrel, but if your 6ft 2in shooter is very skinny, even they might find a 1907 more comfortable for 3-P. Weight can be added to the muzzle if needed later.
If they are going to buy new, and can afford one, the Walter KK500 can be had with a very light barrel (650 x 20mm vs 660 x 22mm for a 1907), and has a much shorter bolt, so short arms can load without stretching or dismounting the rifle. The new Anshutz 54.30 would be another option; it is cheaper than the Walther, although dearer than a 1913, and it too has a shorter bolt than a 1907/13.
Unless cost is a real issue I would not use a CZ. It's by no means inaccurate, but the trigger is not up to par with a dedicated target rifle, even after fettling. A used older Anshutz will give you a better trigger, and a saving over a new rifle.
