I haves a Steyr LP50
.177 and round if you can find them :-)
I have found even the cheapest, under $5 a tin of 500 pellets, shoot just as good. We are only shooting at 10 meters.

Hey, this is 'Murrica. None of them metric things, for me. Good ol' .177's will do the trick.dronning wrote:4.5mmbeeser wrote:What are the preferred pellets for the Steyr LP50?

I can only hope that some day I reach a skill level where pellet testing will actually make a difference in my scores. Right now, anything that fits through the barrel will out shoot me. I shoot whatever I have on hand and work on technique, both physical and mental.

+1 on the "it don't make no difference" replybeeser wrote:What are the preferred pellets for the Steyr LP50?
No amount of money spent on pellets will improve your score as much as money spent on a pad of targets and practice. I run an air pistol league here in OH. We bulk buy Diablo Basic pellets. They work great. A couple targets on the wall are 286/300 with those pellets.
While it may matter in precision rifle, air pistol accuracy is much more the trigger squeezer than the projectile. Even from a rest, I doubt you could get a consistent measureable group size difference between any target type pellet.
We used the bulk Daisy pellets for a while and even those shot great scores.
Re: Preferred pellets for Steyr LP50?
It is easy to put the LP50 in a vice by just making some square grips out of any wood. Since the 50 doesn't have to be cocked each time just mount it and pull the trigger. It is surprising how sometimes the cheaper pellets will outshoot the more expensive ones by quite a bit. The ones that work well will be so tight at 10 that it will seem like only one pellet was shot.
Re: Preferred pellets for Steyr LP50?
Your hand movements overshadow any pellet differences between brands. Air rifle is a different story since the bulls are so much smaller and the platform is more stable.beeser wrote:What are the preferred pellets for the Steyr LP50?
There is no preferred pellet for the Steyr LP50.
Re: Preferred pellets for Steyr LP50?
Pellets can most definitely vary enough to cause trouble. I even had some expensive pellets that grouped around 1/2 inch at 33 feet. The best I found were Merlin made by Vogel and the price was decent but I haven't bought any for several years because a number of us bought a very large amount. Do not buy a bunch until you prove which is best because your gun might act differently.

The JSB Match Diabolo 8.02 gr. that I just tried were noticeably more accurate bench rested and offhand over the Meisterkugeln 7.0 gr., which were accurate up to that point. Both were 4.5 mm.
