Post by dupe34 »

I want to use an adjustable front iris on my front sight does anyone know if I need a 18 or 22mm. Any help would be great.

Use a ruler to measure the inner diameter of the threads. 18mm is between 5/8" and 3/4" and 22mm is about 7/8". There's a chance it's not a standard size either.

I doubt that it is either 18 or 22. What came on those rifles was a Lyman front sight. It isn't metric.

If it's not a metric size, you may be out of luck. I'm not aware of American made foresight irises, and today Gehman and Centra (who also make the Anschutz branded items) make in 18mm and 22mm. Gehmann make a 30mm but that won't help you. You may need to swap the foresight tunnel for a German one.

I measured it with my micrometer. It was 18.03mm. Maybe buy one and try it. I guess I could always send it back.

Lyman makes a line of sights that are metric. 18.03mm is close enough I'd try it.

This strikes me as the kind of thing that Neal Stepp would know. I'd recommend giving him a call (he's not an email enthusiast...) and seeing what he says. He should be able to sell you an adjustable iris, too!
