How to find matches
I've done a good amount of searching and can't find any info on 10 meter air pistol competition in my area, within 6 hours drive preferably. I did find out that the gun club that I'm on the wait list to become a member is affiliated with the CMP and they have an indoor 10m air range on their property. So I'm hoping when I can finally become a member somebody at the club can help. That won't be for at least 4-6 months though. Does anyone have any info on how I can find a 10 meter air pistol match in my area? I'm in Portland, OR

Re: How to find matches
Thanks for the help but I've already searched those websites. I did email the NRA Air Pistol head guy though. I think I might just have to wait til I can become a member at a CMP affiliated club though. I know I'll at the very least be able to hang around and practice at their indoor 10-meter range. Somebody there will have to have some info, it wouldn't surprise me if they have matches there at the 10-meter range. I think I might just try a postal league.
Re: How to find matches
I emailed two people at the NRA and both of them were/are more than willing to help and sent me some good info and contacts in my area. And both told me to not hesitate to ask for more help if I need it. I'm super excited! I love the NRA!
Re: How to find matches
I have been shooting in this Facebook league.https://www.facebook.com/10metercomp
You can also enter the CMP Aces Postal Match. I have shot 2. The final match for this year is on right now.

Re: How to find matches
You may want to see if the Portland Rifle and Pistol Club has air pistol matches (https://portlandrifleandpistol.wordpress.com/). It's right around the corner.
In the Seattle metro area (150 to 200 miles north of you, less than 6 hours even with nasty Seattle traffic) you would want to check in with the Wildlife Committee of Washington. They operats a range (the Kenmore range) just north of Lake Washington in Seattle and they have a very active international pistol program (http://www.wcwinc.org/club/indexC.htm).
You might want to check with the West Seattle Sportsman Club (http://www.wssportsmen.com/) too.
There is an air pistol league that a person (Williams is his last name, I think) that has been running for many years. I am almost certain that he is located in Portland. I'm sure that a search of this bulletin board will turn up his e-mail.

Thank you for the information. I'm planning on becoming a member at the Portland Rifle & Pistol Club. Someone else told me to check them out and from what I can gather, I'm pretty sure they have matches there. I know they at least have a 10 meter range. And I don't mind driving to Seattle, I will definitely check those places out. And are you talking about Don Williams? If so I just joined his postal league yesterday.
Re: How to find matches
Yes, it was Don Williams that I was thinking of. If I could still see open sights I'd sign up for the league myself.
Good shooting.

Re: How to find matches
I'm a member of PRPC and shoot for the team. There's several of us that practice air before the normal Bullseye practice and we'd love to get more interest going in that regard. We practice Monday nights starting at 7 and sometimes earlier. We host the Sectionals which include air and free pistol but if there's interest we could probably do more.
I'll send you a PM.

Re: How to find matches
Hi,
I'm sort of in the same boat myself. I live just outside Tacoma and can't find any Olympic style matches. I've checked out Kenmore range and honestly I'd rather drink rat poison than deal with that traffic. Their current match schedule is Thursday nights. Sounds OK for someone close by.
I would drive to Portland if they held a whole 60 round match.
Cheers

PRPC in Portland will be hosting the Sectionals on February 20 and it will include air pistol, free pistol and standard pistol. The following day is an NRA bullseye match.NoNoBadDog wrote:I would drive to Portland if they held a whole 60 round match.
Feel free to pm me for more info.

Re: How to find matches
nonobaddog, You can enter the zone of recruiting a volunteer or two to run matches, or even step up to be the match director. You can shoot on a relay, if you can train someone to run the range for you. The demise of "paper" shooting-both International and Bullseye can be reversed if we get involved. USA Shooting needs to be more proactive in promoting the sport, too.
