I like Dave Salyer , makes an accurate gun no doubt about it. He re barreled a Springer for me and it shot well.
If you buy a STI, or Caspian Slide and Frame I am sure he will do a great job in under 6 months but he does not offer documentation.
If you want to save the money then for sure I would rank Dave better than Les Baer, or Rock River.

Dave didn't offer any documentation on the guns he worked on for me.
But I do have the emails he sent describing the work he did.
On the 1911-9mm he built for me, he engraved his name on the slide.

Documentation to me is a red herring. When you deal with a gunsmith, if he is local, your documentation is good for as long as the gunsmith is alive or in business.
If he is someone who does mail order your warranty has a huge deductible, in the form of the overnight Fedx shipping each way in order to have the work done.
Also if he guarantees a group, it it with a particular ammo, such as Atlanta Arms and Ammo. You may not achieve quite the same accuracy with your hand loads, only to find when you ship your gun back, that the test ammo still gives you the guaranteed group.
I don't know about you guys, but I can't afford to shoot AA&A in my guns, but I am certain that what I do use, holds the ten ring.

Yes Isabel I agree,
Some people like that certificate gunsmiths like Les Baer gives you.
I know when I use a gunsmith like Dave Salyer or Joe Chambers,
They will standby their product 100%.
