22 long rifle in car. Ruleing is what! No ammo no serial num
This is, I think, an antique 115 years old. No serial number (never had never removed). Taking to a shop and wondering if its legal to take in Jeep. In new jersey. Any thoughts Ron

Do you have a Federal Curio and Relics firearms license? If not, you might want to get one. Its really cheap. Makes it easy for your to own and transport an antique in any state.darticus wrote:This is, I think, an antique 115 years old. No serial number (never had never removed). Other than that, whatever laws in the state for transporting a firearm should apply.

This is the applicable NJ law pertaining to transporting firearms within the state of NJ:
Chapter 39
2C:39-6g. All weapons being transported under paragraph
(2) of subsection b., subsection e., or paragraph
(1) or (3) of subsection f. of this section
shall be carried unloaded and contained in a
closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied
package, or locked in the trunk of the automobile
in which it is being transported, and in the
course of travel shall include only such deviations
as are reasonably necessary under the
circumstances.
You do not need any special permits to take your firearm to a shop. If the card to which you are referring is the yellow card issued by your local PD with your fingerprint on the back which you need to purchase a long gun or handgun ammo in NJ; it is not a federal ID. It is just a NJ Firearms Purchaser ID and has no bearing in this.

Get some punches and hammer in a serial number.

Will you be broadcasting that you are hauling the stuff around? If not, don't bother and just keep the rifle, etc in the trunk and go on. Authorities do not need to know everything we do. Don
