Good book on free pistol?

Post by jenrick »

Can anyone recommend a good book that discusses free pistol. I know it's a long shot to hope for one specifically about free pistol, but I'd prefer something with more than a short chapter at best.

Cheers,

The two best books that cover 50m pistol are:

http://smile.amazon.com/Competitive-Sho ... yer%27+yev

both expensive but excellent.

There's also "Pistol Shooting" by Antal & Skanakar, but finding an English copy is nearly impossible. You don't say where you are, but if you can read German, here's that version:

http://www.amazon.de/Sportliches-Pistol ... 3613014254

It has an 8 page chapter on free pistol.

I have Antal and Skanaker's book (in English, printed in Sweden) and would consider selling it. It's a first edition 1985. Excellent condition, too!

Got it from Ragnar hisself after meeting and competing with him back in the 80s.

Serous offers considered. Search Amazon and eBay to see what the going prices are.

Sorry, it ain't cheap, but this book is one of the best teaching manuals around.

If anyone is interested, post here and send me an PM. Thx.

I have Antal & Skanaker's book, purchased the last copy from Antal's daughter when she was selling them back in 2011. Since apparently no new edition is forthcoming and, therefore, neither Antal's heirs nor Skanaker could possibly benefit from this book financially, I see no reason why they would be against making this book available at no costs to everyone. I can only see how Skanaker might be delighted that his ideas acquire a new and wider audience. I would be willing to scan it and let pilkguns have a pdf-file for everyone's use; of course, after receiving permissions from the copyright holders. I have contact information for Antal's daughter, obviously, but if the shooting community is interested in having access to the text, you should help me to find a way to contact Skanaker, at a minimum (or help to convince him to release copyrights, at a maximum).

For anyone out there, I want to let you all know that I have the largest librry of shooting sports info in private hands in the country. I send stuff all over the world all the time. If anyone wants info on what I have and how to see some of it, I would need a name and mailing address to get it to you. I do not have anything online. Don't trust these stupid machines all that much. I do have the book you mentioned plus lots of other stuff on rifle, pistol, shotgun, archery, running target, etc. Don in Oregon at bawilli@comcast.net.

At a dinner with Skanåker last week the book was discussed briefly. The copyright will not be released, that much I can tell you for sure.

That's fine with me, less work. Any rationale explained?

Another option could be that if he doesn't want to release the English text in a Creative Common manner (and fair enough; that's his choice) could he perhaps consider allowing the book to be copied and re-released in a print-on-demand basis? Technology today allows small runs of specialised books to be printed and bound at a very reasonable cost (something that poets and family historians make great use of). This method would also allow him to receive royalties on each sale whereas he won't be receiving anything for the rare examples changing hands at high cost via used-book dealers.

I just got back from a dinner this evening, and one of the other fellows was describing an on-demand book his wife was involved with through Amazon. Apparently you set things up with them, send them a PDF of the book, and then let the royalties trickle in.

E-books are the way to go for material like this.

You pretty much covered how Amazon does their small scale publishing. Same with putting it into an E-book/Kindle/etc. The major issue with it is that they don't do a whole lot of work to make sure the formatting is correct for either printing or digital. If the PDF is properly laid out, then you're usually okay with on demand printing. Usually you need a wholly separate layout for digital and if it's for a specific platform (say a Kindle) then you might need a specific layout for just that platform. A lot of folks are a bit too lazy to do it right/well, but occasionally someone takes the time and everything turns out great.

Yur'yev is excellent, but is getting increasingly hard to find at a rational price. One occasionally shows up for a lot less money, but you have to be patient & search a number of used book sites, eBay, etc.

Hi

The schedule slipped a little, as it often seems to do when you have toddlers around.

The book is ready, and we will start with the english version on iBooks, which will be available in 1 or 2 days. Hardcopies (in English and Swedish) will be printed within a month, but distribution outside of Sweden/Europe is still not finalised.

The book will also be published to other stores like Google Play Books etc within short.

Update: Title "Master Competitive Pistol Shooting"

English version iBook.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/master ... ls=1&mt=11
Swedish version iBook
https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/bemast ... 2053?mt=11

English version pdf, for all systems and readers.
http://www.lulu.com/content/e-book/mast ... g/18773827
Swedish version pdf
http://www.lulu.com/content/e-book/bem% ... t/18775230

The book basically follows the original book in structure, but has been completely rewritten.
Images are reshot, graphics remade.
