Best shooting glasses lens for 10m SIUS Target LED

Post by Loga Raj »

Hi all, I am new here.
Hoping to find out what would be the most suitable lens to use on my champion shooting glasses
on a 10 Meter air pistol target by SIUS with LED light?
Recently after a upgrade from the rollback paper target system.
I have been having trouble with seeing my sight clearly due to the very bright LED lighting.

I was wondering if using a coloured lens would help to see the sights more clearly.
If so what would be be the best lens and and colour to use.
My vision is and no degree required.

Thanks in advance.
Hope someone can help.

To reduce brightness, a neutral density (grey) filter would work. I guess you would need a density of about 4. A polarizing filter would give you about that much density and might reduce flare as well.

Or you could turn off every second or third bulb.

He wants to hear from a lot of people so he can make an informed decision.
There is always more than one answer.

You don't agree on the Olympic Pistol forum?
There are many more Air Gun shooters there.

Even if you feel your answer is the word from God, there is always other good responses.
So even if I agree with you, I want to hear from others.

My mantra is that sunglasses or filters are always a bad idea: if you have spare light that you want to reduce, do it by using a smaller aperture. That way you at least get a depth of field benefit out of the deal.

If you dim the light using a filter, your pupil will dilate and you lose focus. If you get a piece of aluminum foil and cut a 0.050" or so diameter hole in it, and stick it on your shooting glasses, you will get a similar reduction in brightness to using a filter, but you will get fantastic depth of field.

If you want to get this benefit AND spend money, you can buy a merit disk.

If you can't figure out how to get a 050 hole, email me your name and address, and I'll send you some free stick-on apertures I made using self adhesive aluminum.

Suppose you don't WANT or need increased depth of field. That's not what apertures are for anyway.

I've never seen a situation in shooting where someone said that better focus wasn't a good thing. That said, if you don't want increased depth of field, you want to use a big aperture.

Not sure either how you define what apertures are FOR. Apertures do improve depth of field, that's a fact of science. If you use it, you will get an improved depth of field, regardless of why you used it. And some people do use it to get improved depth of field.

Many people will shoot better if the target is not in perfect focus. The target can distract shooters from the more important sight alignment and trigger pull.

An aperture can be used to make sure the shooter's head is in the same position every shot. When used this way it does not need to be so small that it will increase depth of field.

I have some colored lenses for my shooting glasses. I haven't used them in a long long time.

I've never been bothered by the light of a 10m airgun range so I don't see any need for sunglasses. If I did I would use a neutral grey. I have a set of grey lenses for my outdoor shooting glasses, but I rarely use them.
