Browning Buckmark OOB damage....

I was shooting Slow Fire/25 practice last night and the Range officer
grabbed me to ask me my opinion of a new shooters jammed gun.
He had a low mileage Buckmark shooting Armscore ammo and had an Out of Battery event,
round not seating. The result was an lightly bent top strap, it now has a slight
arch in it as opposed to it being straight. The failure looks to be caused by
too much oil and not enough cleaning leaving the firing pin protruding from the
bolt. The question I have is this,,,, Since the top strap is steel and is only slightly
arched, what do you guys think of putting it on a press and gently pressing it
back to flat. In total, it has an .080 gap under the mid point of the strap.
The gun would cycle a new round after the ruptured case was removed.

I'm on the fence as to the need for new parts, I think straightening the strap
would be fine.....

I would send it back to browning dirty or not that type of failure should not happen and they will probably fix for free.

Buckmark top straps are not the sturdiest. For a number of years they were even made out of plastic; basically a throw away.

Sounds like a great time to upgrade to a TacSol scope base. (Very sturdy and one can mount a red dot), Our daughter is currently using the one with the integral rear sight on her pistol:

Oh its that POS sight bar, yeah if nothing else wrong with the gun get a Tactical solutions or a weaver rail from Brownells. Ridiculous design have to zero every time you need to field strip.
